My daughter is not physically active/has never participated in athletics. Will she be OK?

Yes! Our program is designed for girls of all fitness levels.  It's non-competitive, self-paced and fun. We have many girls who learn for the first time that they do enjoy running and physical activity.

What does my daughter need to bring to practice?

Comfortable, weather appropriate clothing (most activities take place outdoors, unless the weather is extreme), athletic shoes, socks, a water bottle, a snack (optional, for after school sites), and a hair tie.

What does a running buddy do?

A running buddy registers for  the River City Rat Race (buddy's registration is not included in GOTR program registration), and runs/walks with the Girls on the Run participant.

Do I have to be my daughter's running buddy?

Most girls do choose a family member (over age 16) to be their running buddy.  If you're intimidated, don't be! There's a 5K training tool in the Girls on the Run Grown Up Guide that will come home with your daughter, and this would be a great first 5K. However, if your daughter isn't able to identify a running buddy, we will identify a community volunteer to run with her.

My daughter has dance/volleyball/gymnastics and can only attend one day per week.  Can she be in Girls on the Run?

No--our program is effective when there is consistent attendance (less than 4 absences).

There's not a Girls on the Run program at my daugther's school. Can she still participate?

Maybe. Most of our school sites meet right after school, so it would be challenging for her to attend at another school.  We have late sites that would probably accommodate your daughter.  We'd love your help starting a site at your daughter's school next season!

I can't afford the registration fee.

Check out the sliding scale. We're committed to never turning a girl away for inability to pay. If you're unable to pay, contact us to work out an arrangement.
