Position Profile

A Girls on the Run® Running Buddy must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades.  The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event.   The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and open up while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle, and harness the inner strength that they possess.  Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today.

 

The Running Buddy has the following responsibilities:

 

  • Attend required Running Buddy training;
  • Attend pre-season Running Buddy Meeting;
  • Be a role model for their buddy;
  • Provide encouragement for their buddy during the Girls on the Run® season through weekly emails or written notes;
  • Attend the practice 5k for their buddy’s site
  • Run with their buddy in the end of season 5k race/walk.

 

Total time commitment need to fulfill this volunteer position:

2-3 hours a month for the length of at least one Girls on the Run® season.

 

The Running Buddy provides encouragement and support to their buddy throughout the course of the season by sharing weekly notes of encouragement. These notes can be emailed or delivered to their buddy’s Head Coach. The Running Buddy acts as a personal cheerleader for their buddy by attending the practice 5k and the end of season 5k.  The Running Buddy completes the 5k with their buddy and expresses support and enthusiasm for her accomplishment!
