Assistant Coach

Coaching a Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole team is the most rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run. You get to experience our program first hand, facilitate the award-winning Girls on the Run curriculum, inspire a team of 8-20 girls in your community, and build relationships with your incredible team and co-coaches. Our coaches say they get as much out of our program as our girls!

The Assistant Coach may choose to attend one or two weekly Girls on the Run sessions during the 10-week season.  The Assistant coach supports the Head Coach in facilitating Girls on the Run’s pre-planned lessons and workouts.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Clean background check
  • Attendance at a pre-season Coach Training
  • Strong commitment to GOTR’s mission and core values
  • Experience working with girls aged 8-14
  • Excellent communication skills

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Commitment to GOTR’s mission and core values, and acting in a manner consistent with them
  • Serving as a role model and mentor to a team of 8-20 girls
  • Leading team through each lesson
  • Communicating with parents/guardians of program participants
  • Consistent attendance at at least one weekly practice during the Girls on the Run season
  • Attending the celebratory 5K event with program participants

Time Commitment  

  • During the 10-week season, attend one or two 90-minute practices per week (with preparation, approximately 2-4 hours per week)
  • Attend mandatory pre-season coach training session (one-time, approximately 5 hours)
  • Attend Celebratory 5K (one time, approximately 4 hours)

 

*This volunteer position may be used as a service learning project, internship, or other college credit project upon agreement of the college/university and Council Director.
